Natural Parks in the Dolomites
There are 8 Nature Parks in the Alto Adige and one National Park. Two of these parks you find in the Alta Pusteria: the Nature Park "Fanes-Sennes-Braies" and the Nature Park "Dolomiti di Sesto". From June to the end of September you have the possibility to take guided tours in the Nature Parks.
San Candido lies in a spectacular position at the center of the Sesto Dolomiti Alps Natural Park, an ideal destination for families surrounded by soaring peaks, deep lakes, marshes and bizarre mountainous land masses enshrouded in myths and legends for centuries.
This unique landscape offers interest and amusement for the young and old alike all year round, and in terms of variety fears no comparison with any Alpine area at all.
Like the wealthy members of the bourgeoisie who were the first to discover the attractions our land at the start of the 1900s, visitors today are still enchanted by its charm, the majesty of the mountain landscape, and the sincere hospitality of the local people who live astride the border of northern and southern cultures and vaunt a long tradition of hospitality together with the lively, pleasant character that distinguishes the inhabitants of San Candido.
The Natural Park Fanes-Sennes-Braies covers 25,680 hectares and is one of the biggest natural reserves of its kind. It spreads over the regions of Fanes, Fodara Vedla and Sennes and the borders reach the municipalities of Braies, Valdaora, La Valle and Badia. The landscape offers beautiful forests and splendid lakes. Because of the complex geomorphology the park is very interesting from a scientific point of view.
