The hike starts in the Cinque Torri area above Cortina. From here, the trail crosses a spectacular rocky landscape towards Rifugio Averau before continuing up to Rifugio Nuvolau at 2,575 metres, dramatically perched on a rocky outcrop.
The panorama is one of the highlights of the entire hike. Some of the most famous peaks of the Ampezzo Dolomites rise all around, including the Tofane, Cristallo, Sorapis and Pelmo. Together with the distinctive rock towers of the Cinque Torri, they create a mountain setting unlike anywhere else in the area.
