The hike starts in Kandellen, above Dobbiaco. From here, the trail climbs through woodland and alpine meadows to the Bonner Hütte. Beyond the hut, it continues along the broad mountain ridge, reaching the summit cross of Pfannhorn at 2,663 metres after around 45 minutes.
The panorama extends far beyond the Dolomites: across the valley rise the Sesto Dolomites with Dreischusterspitze and the Three Peaks, as well as the Braies Dolomites with Seekofel. Beyond them, the view reaches the Rieserferner Group with Schneebiger Nock and Hochgall and the Hohe Tauern with Dreiherrnspitze and Großvenediger.
